Description
The Allen-Bradley 20-COMM-P is a PowerFlex option adapter that is used to provide a PowerFlex drive the capability to connect to Profibus communication network. This adapter attaches to the drive’s reserved communication slot intended for add-on adapters such as the 20-COMM-P.
By enabling Profibus communication to the drive, the drive is enabled to connect to Profibus network, in daisy-chain topology wherein Up to 32 nodes is supported by One (1) Profibus segment. With the network connection, drives in the network may be configured over one location, such as the programming workstation without the need of locally configuring the drive through the embedded keypad. Additionally, the Profibus communication adapter enables the PowerFlex Adjustable Frequency drive to be controlled directly via controllers, Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) units. The 20-COMM-P supports a communication data rate of 9.6 kbps, 19.2 kbps, 93.75 kbps, 187.5 kbps, 500 kbps, 1.5 Mbps, 3 Mbps, 6 Mbps, or 12 Mbps data rate. It has an operating temperature of -10…50 °C (14…122 °F) and relative humidity of 5…95% non-condensing. Power is supplied via the host drive’s circuitry which means application of external power to the adapter is not necessary.
This communication adapter, along with the host PowerFlex drive must be installed in an environment that has controlled or zero presence of volatile or corrosive gas, vapors or dust. An appropriate enclosure that complies to the area of classification must be used to house the drive and the adapter.
The 20-COMM-P Profibus adapter can withstand an ambient temperature range of -10 to 50 degrees Celsius and at a relative humidity of 5 to 95% without condensation. It is recommended to install the adapter in dry and clean environments without the presence of corrosive particles. The Profibus adapter must be grounded. This can prevent the adapter from creating electromagnetic interference when it is operating. The module’s dimensions are a height of 19 millimeters, a length of 86 millimeters, and a width of 78.5 millimeters.
